This Week…

815-1030 - Gallstone Disease.

1030-1130 - GI Endoscopy.

1130-1200 - SURGERY EXAM. Written M/C, 10Q’s. Followed by a practical of suturing (4 vertical mattress sutures).

And that is it for classes in 2nd year. Only one more exam to go!

830-1130 - Sutures training. This was fun. We practiced how to do a vertical mattress suture. It was actual perfect timing for my group since the practical exam is tomorrow.

1145-1245 - GI Bleeding.

1245-1330 - Fluids and Electrolytes. Yeah, the entire schedule has been moved around so random classes that were cancelled one day are being shifted all over the place. We’ll see what happens tomorrow.

830-1030 - Bedside. OR. We were watching a gastrectomy when a surgeon walked in and asked if there was a student who wanted to scrub in for surgery. I volunteered. It was a complete proctectomy (“anal amputation”) due to rectal cancer. It was long, and one of the interns and I were left in the end to suture the patient up.

1030-1115 - Postop Care. Missed because I was in surgery.

1115-1245 - Fluids and Electrolytes. Cancelled.

1245-1330 - Case Discussion. Cancelled. 

830-1030 - Bedside. Outpatient USG clinic.

1030-1115 - Surgical Infections.

1115-1245 - Acute Abdomen.

1245-1330 - Case Discussion. For the life of me, I can’t remember what the case was about.

830-1030 - Bedside. Skipped. We did H&PEs and apparently the students in my group were impressed.

1030-1115 - Surgical Infections. Cancelled.

1115-1200 - Preop Care and Day Surgery.

1200-1245 - Informed Consent.

1245-1330 - The Making of a Surgeon. Cancelled.

1430-1530 - Infectious Diseases EXAM. Another one down.

830-1030 - Bedside. We were in the outpatient/USG clinic.

1030-1115 - Anatomy in Surgery.

1200-1245 - Ultrasound in Surgery.

1245-1330 - Week Review Test.

830-1030 - Bedside. Skipped. Had OR time today.

1030-1115 - Dermatosurgery. Skipped.

1200-1245 - Sutures and Surgical Devices. Skipped.

1245-1330 - Case Discussion. Skipped.

1745-1915 - Pathomorphology. Test 4. It was awful. That’s all I have to say about that.

830-1030 - Bedside. Our doc was busy so our intern took us through the ward and taught us how to clean wounds and change dressings.

1030-1115 - Decision Making in Surgery. Went over several patient presentations and how to approach them surgically - looking at different options and treatment plans.

1200-1245 - Sutures and Surgical Devices. Cancelled

1245-1330 - Case Discussion. Pt with a breast tumor.

1430-1600 - Infectious Diseases. Last lecture. Talked about DNA and RNA viral infections.
