830-1130 - Sutures training. This was fun. We practiced how to do a vertical mattress suture. It was actual perfect timing for my group since the practical exam is tomorrow. 1145-1245 - GI Bleeding. 1245-1330 - Fluids and Electrolytes. Yeah, the entire schedule has been moved around so random classes that were cancelled one day are being shifted all over the place. We’ll see what happens...

830-1030 - Bedside. OR. We were watching a gastrectomy when a surgeon walked in and asked if there was a student who wanted to scrub in for surgery. I volunteered. It was a complete proctectomy (“anal amputation”) due to rectal cancer. It was long, and one of the interns and I were left in the end to suture the patient up. 1030-1115 - Postop Care. Missed because I was in surgery. ...

830-915 - Intro to Surgery. 915-1045 - Bedside. Instead of interviewing patients and doing physicals, we got a quick hospital tour and jumped right into the OR. Saw one patient with jaundice. He recently had a cholecytectomy and the surgeons were trying to see what was wrong with the bile duct. They were performing an ERCP and concluded that the patient possibly has a Klatskin tumor. We asked...

Missed a lecture on parasitic diseases, of which schistosomiasis was one of the diseases covered. 1630-1700 - Internal Medicine - Final Exam! I went in earlier than everyone else and it was a breeze! I got asked about chest pain, cough, and acute appendicitis. It was probably one of the best...

845-930 - Toxicology - Clinic. Saw a patient who OD’d on methamphetamines. I also found out why these men constant claim that they don’t know how it happened, and how someone must have slipped something into their drink. It’s because they don’t want to admit to buying and taking amphetamines illegally in case the cops are involved. Yes, I realize now how common-sense this...
